Hokkaido University Kids Laboratory 2019

A lecture for elementary students were given by Professor Dr. Junya Yamagishi at Institute for Genetic Medicine on March 27, 2019 under “Hokkaido University Kids Laboratory 2019” organized by Institute for Genetic Medicine, the Research Center for Zoonosis Control and other institutes.   It was attended by 34 students.   After the lecture, experimental and practical work for 8 students was given by Professor Sawa and Dr. Hayashida at experimental room at the Research Center for Zoonosis Control.

Experimental Topic: Observation of mosquito larva, pupa and imago. Making the mosquito specimen.

Lecturer:  Professor Hirofumi Sawa, Research Center for Zoonosis Control / Global Station for Zoonosis Control, Global Institution for  Collaborative Research and Education (GI-CoRE), Hokkaido University,   Dr. Kyoko Hayashida, Research Center for Zoonosis Control, Hokkaido University                                                                                                                        

Following the lecture, the ecology of mosquito and infectious disease transmitted by mosquito like dengue fever were introduced to the students. Also, students were encouraged to observe of mosquito larva, pupa and imago, and make the mosquito specimen. The lecture and practical work were stimulating, inspirational, and provided great opportunities for the students to learn zoonosis control and lead them to having an interest in science.
