【Lecture】Stephen E. Robertson presents a distinguished lecture

The ACM SIGIR Conference – one of the leading international conferences in the area of information retrieval – will be held from Aug. 7 to 11 at Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo. This is the first SIGIR Conference organized in Japan.

This year’s SIGIR Conference features a keynote lecture given by Stephen E. Robertson. Global Station for Big Data and Cybersecurity (GSB) and Graduate School of Information Science and Technology (IST) take this opportunity to invite him to Hokkaido University and organize a lecture for a wide range of audiences.

The lecture by Dr. Robertson is scheduled for Friday, July 28 at Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Hokkaido University.

Stephen E. Robertson is one of developers of Okapi BM25, a probabilistic information retrieval model, which is used in many search systems as the de facto model. He received the Gerard Salton award for 2000, the award which is presented every three years to an individual who has made significant contributions to research in information retrieval.

His lecture might be of great interest to specialists and nonspecialists alike as it will offer invaluable opportunity to learn the history of information retrieval and a perspective on its future development from one of most important figures in the field. Researchers and students in any research areas are welcome to attend this distinguished lecture.
