国際連携研究教育局とは About GI-CoRE

国際連携研究教育局（GI-CoRE）は、北海道大学の強みや特色を活かした国際連携研究・教育の推進と部局が独自に進める国際連携研究・教育の支援を目的とし、世界トップレベルの教員を国内外及び学内から結集した総長直轄の教員組織です。 GI-CoRE内には、研究領域ごとの活動拠点である「グローバルステーション（GS）」を置き、各GSにおいて、原則5年間の設置期間内に重点的に研究教育活動を進めています。 GI-CoREでは、連携機関から招へいした教員に特例措置（給与、旅費、管理運営業務の免除等について特別な待遇）を定めています。 また、設置期間を満了したGSは、関連部局等に定着化し、「GI-CoRE協力拠点」の認定を受け、GI-CoREと連携しながら研究教育活動を継続しています。（下記参照）

About GI-CoRE

The Global Institution for Collaborative Research and Education (GI-CoRE) is a faculty organization under the direct control of the Hokkaido University President that brings together distinguished researchers from around the world to conduct collaborative research and education with scholars at Hokkaido University. Under the GI-CoRE system, research hubs known as “Global Stations (GS)” across different research fields were actively being launched until the end of FY2025 when the program came to a close. Each GS had an implementation period of five years to conduct intensive research and education activities. Through the GI-CoRE system, scholars from partner institutions were invited to engage in research activities at Global Stations and granted special provisions related to salary, travel expenses, and exemption from administrative responsibilities. After the initial implementation period, the GS projects were then transitioned into the affiliated faculties and centers and certified as “GI-CoRE Cooperating Hubs” (as listed below). These hubs are now expected to continue the research from each GS, in cooperation with GI-CoRE, and produce actionable results based on their findings.

農学研究院 食水土資源グローバルセンター

■活動概要　世界の食水土資源問題を包括的に扱う研究拠点を構築し、シドニー大学、カリフォルニア大学デービス校、ウィスコンシン大学マディソン校、カセサート大学等の海外教員との共同研究及び大学院教育を通じて、次代を担う人材育成を実現

 

先端生命科学研究院 次世代物質生命科学研究センター ソフトマター国際連携ユニット

■活動概要　ソフトマターの研究と教育を推進する国際拠点として、パリ市立工業物理化学高等専門大学（ESPCI）、デューク大学、コーネル大学などと協働し、世界を先導するソフトマター基礎研究、革新的ソフトマテリアル創製及び医療応用を展開している。

 

情報科学研究院 ビッグデータとIoTに関する協同センター

■沿革

■活動概要 ビッグデータ、IoT (Internet of Things:モノのインターネット)の異分野融合研究拠点として、マサチューセッツ大学アマースト校とシドニー工科大学との国際連携研究を進めている。

 

アイヌ・先住民研究センター　先住民・文化的多様性グローバル研究ユニット

■沿革

2026年4月－	アイヌ・先住民研究センターに先住民・文化的多様性グローバル研究ユニットを設置しGS機能を継承 同ユニットがGI-CoRE協力拠点に認定（認定期間：～2027年度）

■活動概要 先住民・先住民族に関する共同研究を推進する国際的な研究ハブとして開設した。オックスフォード大学、ウプサラ大学、ルンド大学、リバプール大学、オスロ大学、ヤウンデ第１大学、イルクーツク国立大学、極東連邦大学、サイモン・フレイザー大学、ワシントン大学、アラスカ大学、アリゾナ大学、オレゴン大学、シラキュース大学、国立台湾大学、国立成功大学、メルボルン大学、オーストラリア国立大学、オーストラリア国立博物館から海外教員を招へいし、文化的多様性の人類史的意義の解明と多民族・多文化共生社会モデルの構築に取り組んでいる。

Global Center for Biomedical Science and Engineering, Faculty of Medicine

■ History

April 2014:	Establishment of the Global Station for Quantum Medical Science and Engineering (GSQ)

■ Research Activities: The Global Center for Biomedical Science and Engineering housed in the Hokkaido University Faculty of Medicine developed the world’s first “molecular-tracking proton therapy system”, and along with molecular imaging, has been making use of their discoveries, in collaboration with the unit based in Stanford University, to push the limits of Biomedical Science and Engineering. The center’s aspirations are to provide innovations, nurture the next generation of biomedical scientists and engineers, and to ultimately provide the world with meaningful contributions in the field.

 

International Collaboration Unit, International Institute for Zoonosis Control

■ History

April 2020:	・Establishment of the International Collaboration Unit, Research Center for Zoonosis Control to continue the research and educational activities of GSZ. ・International Collaboration Unit certified as a “GI-CoRE Cooperating Hub” until FY 2024.
April 2021:	Research Center for Zoonosis Control becomes International Institute for Zoonosis Control
March 2025	GI-CoRE Cooperating Hub operations period extension approved through FY2026

■ Research Activities: The International Collaboration Unit housed in the Hokkaido University International Institute for Zoonosis Control in collaboration with the University of Melbourne, University College Dublin, and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology is working to develop the world’s first research and education hub to tackle zoonoses. Their hope is for the hub to produce valuable research findings that can be implemented at the societal level.

 

Global Center for Food, Land and Water Resources, Research Faculty of Agriculture

■ History

■ Research Activities: The Global Center for Food, Land and Water Resources is a research hub that works in tandem with faculty from The University of Sydney, UC Davis, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Kasetsart University, and other universities based abroad, to tackle global issues related to food, land, and water resources. It aims through its collaborations to foster the next generation of food, land, and water resource experts through its graduate education program.

 

Soft Matter Collaborative Research Unit, Frontier Research Center for Advanced Material and Life Science, Faculty of Advanced Life Science

■ History

■ Research Activities: The Soft Matter Collaborative Research Unit is an international research and education hub housed in the Frontier Research Center for Advanced Material and Life Science in the Faculty of Life Science at Hokkaido University. In collaboration with ESPCI Paris, Duke University, Cornell University, it is working to drive advancement in basic soft matter research, innovation in soft material creation, and the application of both in the medical field.

 

Collaborative Center for Big data and IoT, Faculty of Information Science and Technology

■ History

April 2021:	・Establishment of Collaborative Center for Big Data and IoT, Faculty of Information Science and Technology to continue the research and educational activities of GSB. ・The Center was certified as a “GI-CoRE Cooperating Hub” until FY 2025.

■ Research Activities: The Collaborative Center for Big Data and IoT housed in the Faculty of Information Science and Technology is an interdisciplinary research center that focuses on Big Data and the Internet of Things to advance international joint research endeavors in those fields. It works in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Technology Sydney.

 

Global Research Unit for Indigenous Studies and Cultural Diversity, Center for Ainu and Indigenous Studies.

■History

April 2021:	Establishment of the Global Station for Indigenous Studies and Cultural Diversity (GSI) (Implementation Period is expected to be until March 2026.)

April 2026:	・Establishment of Collaborative Center for Global Research Unit for Indigenous Studies and Cultural Diversity, Center for Ainu and Indigenous Studies to continue the research and educational activities of GSI. ・The Center was certified as a “GI-CoRE Cooperating Hub” until FY 2027.

■Research Activities: The Global Research Unit for Indigenous Studies and Cultural Diversity housed in the Hokkaido University Center for Ainu and Indigenous Studies was established as a hub to facilitate collaborative international research concerning indigenous people groups and cultures. International scholars from Oxford University, Uppsala University, Lund University, University of Liverpool, University of Oslo, Yaounde University I, Irkutsk University, Far Eastern Federal University, Simon Fraser University, University of Washington, University of Alaska, University of Arizona, the University of Oregon, Syracuse University, National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University, and Australian National Museum have been invited to participate in joint-research. The goals of the unit are to bring to light cultural differences and the historical significance of indigenous people groups, and to foster a model for a future multi-cultural society.

■沿革

2020年3月－	国際連携研究教育局（GI-CoRE）にバイオサーフィス創薬グローバルステーションを設置 (設置期間は2025年2月までを予定)

■活動概要　細胞・微生物等の生体膜・バイオ素材表面を対象としたバイオサーフィス研究とドラッグモダリティ研究とを組み合わせ、アカデミック創薬を推進する学際的研究拠点として開設した。オックスフォード大学、ヘルシンキ大学、テキサス工科大学、ミネソタ大学、スイス連邦工科大学（ETH）等との国際連携研究を進めている。

Global Station for Biosurfaces and Drug Discovery

■History

March 2020:	Establishment of the Global Station for Biosurfaces and Drug Discovery (GSD) (Implementation Period is expected to be until February 2025.)

■Outline of Research Activities The GSD was launched as an interdisciplinary research hub to achieve academic drug discovery based on the combination of Biosurface research (focused on surface events of cells, microbes, skin, etc) and Drug modality techniques and expand international collaborative research mainly with the University of Oxford, University of Helsinki, Texas Tech University, University of Minnesota and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich).

北極域研究センター 国際連携研究ユニット

■沿革

■活動概要　自然科学・工学・人文社会学分野が連携して学際的に推進する国際研究ネットワーク拠点として、アラスカ大学、北東連邦大学、オスロ大学、ノード大学などと協働して、北極域に関するフィールド研究を実施してきた

April 2021:	・Establishment of International Collaborative Research Unit(reorganized as the General Strategy Office in FY2024), Arctic Research Center to continue the research and educational activities of GSA. ・The Center was certified as a “GI-CoRE Cooperating Hub” until FY 2025.

■ Research Activities: The International Collaborative Research Unit, Arctic Research Center works in close collaboration with institutions known for their achievements in Arctic Research, including the University of Alaska, North-Eastern Federal University, University of Oslo and Nord University. The center was carried out interdisciplinary research and forming international Arctic fieldwork networks through collaborations in fields such as natural science, engineering, humanities, and social science.
